Hi,

Well... my personal experiences with Linux on the AB are _very_ bad :-(
I never managed to finish the installation of Debian (imho the BEST
distribution, but decide yourself. (RedHat is available and the (obsolete)
watchtower.)
I would be happy to provide you with the most recent Debian/68k CD(s).
If you would like to try it out (and have already some Linux experience)
have a
look at my homepage. There is a "special" kernel for the Afterburner (it
worked
for some ppl, but not for me :-( )
The problem is, that the hardware is different from one version of the AB to
another!

A nice disk, I have one, too ;-) (But a bit slow... though faster than the old
Jaz ;-))) )

>Linux on a cartridge without having to alter my main IDE drive I

Well... especially the SCSI part makes trouble... I guess you have to try your
IDE drive. But try the ramdisk from my homepage first:

No. TOS 7 will actually be exactly the same as good old TOS 4.04. I
will just try to remove all 030 instructions and perhaps include NOVA
support.

With a little help of Douglas Little I might try to get the TOS 8 to
detect and make available the Afterburner´s FastRAM...

Why version 7? Any reason to push the version number?

Please don't use the transparent translation register or add a

Just for fun. The TOS version will stay at 4.04 for compatibility, of

Hi
I am searching for somebody with Afterburner040 and NOVA graphics
with Mach64 1MB videoram. I would like him to test TK with
(unfinished) NOVA support.
Later I will be searching for somebody with an Afterburner but
without NOVA to test the universal TK.
I would also like to hear your opinions on how to select between NOVA
output and Videl output during boot-up. This is because NOVA-AB is a
very special combo - their users may want to select one of the two
VGA outputs during the boot. Other machines (Medusa, Hades, Milan)
simply support the only one VGA card (they have a fixed scanning
order like PCI1->PCI2->PCI3->ISA) so they do not bother with users of
two VGA cards.
BTW I would perhaps be able to throw out Blitter from TOS completely
but for mono resolution only. Is anybody booting in more than 2
colour mode? If yes, why?

I have got just an afterburner whitout any graphics card (and NOVA), so
i will be very pleased to test your...ABTOS (?!) on my Falcon.
(Falcon+AB040/16Mb, 4Mb ST-RAM, Magic 5.13, TOS 4.04)
how you will do to release your nice TOS ?

Hi Petr! Hmm...don't really know if this is relevant to your question
or not, but I use NVRAM sometimes to boot up in RGB (TV), 16 color,
and 40 column to run auto-booting games like Dungeon Master. Anyone
know if DM will still boot up if you set the colors to 2? I'll try it
here in just a few minutes and post what I find. I know I can't boot
up DM unless I am in RGB/40 column mode...
This is the only instance when I can think of that you -might- need
more than 2 colors during boot up... ;-)
