Have you tried to just install HD-Driver like on any other machine? I
have always done this since 6.30 and it has always worked with my
SCSI-units. 7.50 caused me a lot of trouble though, but that was with
my boot-partition which is on the IDE-drive. My setup is pretty 
similar to your, TK5.07, no cache-utilities at all, MiNT + N.AES.

I had similar problems when the XFRB-buffer was installed. This should
always be switched off on AB's.
