I've done it last week, while visiting a friend with a Falcon/AB040 while
on a conference I had a bit time to play. I've compiled the 2.0.33pl1 kernel
with 040 support only, no 040 optimizations, no advanced CPU, and set all RAM
non-cacheable (that's the diffs you got). The only trouble with SCSI was
timeouts on write, and probably data corruption as well (my ext2
filesystems were somewhat damaged in the process, and I couldn't unpack the
base system).
Reducing the video resolution etc. got rid of the timeouts, and I've installed
the Debian base system on SCSI no problem, including booting that partition
later up to the point where dselect wanted to start installing...

The box had 14 MB regular ST-RAM and 32 MB on the AB, IIRC. Kernel was run in
ST-RAM, no swap used.
