programming NOVA gfx

Hi,

is it possible to change graphics resolution from within a program and then
restore it back safely? Some NOVA VDI support for this? Are there some
predefined standard gfx modes? (like in VGA BIOS)

Note: no, I don't have ATI Mach64 yet :-( I just wanted to know if it was
possible (for games programming).
